Last week, the Legislature passed the fiscal year 2016 budget, capping an intense couple of days for lawmakers and a busy week for the Association.
The Association stayed at the Legislature throughout the whole process, pushing for fair and equitable funding for our schools and monitoring each new development. We are still working to sort out the details of the budget and its impact on charter students and families.
Prior to the budget talks, the Association hosted its “Charters at the Capitol” day on March 4, which sought to connect charter leaders with state lawmakers in an effort to solicit support. Leaders representing more than 60 schools attended the event and were able to meet face-to-face with their district legislators.
As the dust continues to settle and we dissect the budget details, we are simultaneously monitoring a number other charter school-related bills that will surely return to the forefront of legislative discussions.
